      The proposed technology suggests a heart disease diagnostics kit that uses multifractal analysis tests to produce an integrated, noninvasive diagnostic/prognostic approach for diagnosis of heart disease, prognostication, prediction of risk of sudden death, and prediction of response to therapy. Useful results from these tests can be made available in 15 minutes or less to several hours. A multifractal version of the ST alpha scaling coefficient and a multifractal version of the LT alpha offer additional useful information about cardiac disease. Researchers have also refined preexisting multifractal analytic methods to eliminate the confounding effect of skipped/abnormal/ectopic beats, frequently found in the general population and patients with cardiac disease.

        Human UGT-X, an integral membrane enzyme, is involved in biotransformations of a wide variety of endogenous compounds, such as fatty acids, retinoids, steroid compounds and many drugs and xenobiotics. Glucuronidted substrates usually become biologically inactive and, due to the increased solubility, are excreted from tissues. The UGT-X messenger RNA is not present in normal ovarian tissue and nonmalignant ovarian fibroma, although is highly expressed in mucinous adenoma (LMP tumor) and in endometrioid carcinoma.
        The endogenous synthesis of fatty acids is a characteristic feature of tumor cells, as opposed to normal cells, and is a significant source of fatty acids for growth and production of fatty acid derivatives that promote cell proliferation of these cells. Researchers have shown that ectopic expression of UGT-X protein leads to growth arrest of human ovarian tumor cells. The novel feature of this technology is that tumor cells can be sequestered in growth by starvation of fatty acids, major substrates for the biosynthesis of membranes and secondary messengers.
        Active UGT-X proteins expressed in tumor cells can be used to decrease cell proliferation and in combination with other treatments may be used to treat various cancers. Additionally the UGT-X messenger RNA and/or the protein and/or the activity can be used as a tumor specific marker in diagnostic procedures.

          The technology suggests the development of new signal transduction-based approach for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. By developing a hepatic cell line in which the Raf-1 pathway can be induced specifically and strongly, researchers have now found that Raf-1/MEK-1/2 p42MAPK plays a central role in regulating LDL receptor expression, and the degree of p42/44MAPK activation determines the extent of LDL receptor induction. This study also highlighted that p42/44MAPK is critical in regulating LDL receptor expression.
          This information will help in understanding the pathologic states under which the receptor pathways are perturbed resulting in hypercholesterolemia. Furthermore, the technology also proposes inducers of p42/44MAPK that can act as excellent agents to treat hypercholesterolemia.

            The technology provides a PCR-based procedure for effective diagnose of Mycobacteria Other Than Tuberculosis (MOTT) infections directly from patient specimens in clinical testing. This method is far more superior to classical testing methods and biochemical tests. The technology uses a sequence of the internal transcribed spacer sequences (ITSS) of 16S-23S rDNA of mycobacteria to identify MOTT and distinguish them from Mycobacteria Tuberculosis (MTB).
            This novel method amplifies the rDNA of eleven different MOTT species in a single test and does not amplify M. tuberculosis DNA. This test can be applied directly on patient samples, both fresh and formalin-fixed, which greatly decreases the turnaround time.
            Further objective of this technology is to provide test kits for determining whether a patient is infected with MOTT, MTB, or M. chelonae.

              The process suggested by this technology fabricates robust multifunctional bioscaffolds that are self-assembled from ceramic nanowires and directly coat various materials. Because the nanowire scaffolds are both durable and macroporous, they are useful for a wide variety of both biomedical and dental applications.

                Tumor Antigen Derived Gene (TADG) is a new member of the serine protease family and is a highly overexpressed gene in tumors. The technology offers a screening program to identify proteases, which are overexpressed in carcinoma by examining PCR products amplified using differential display in early stage tumors and metastatic tumors compared to that of normal tissue. TADG protein is composed of multiple domains including a transmembrane domain and several ligand-binding domains with extracellular protease domains at the carboxy terminus. It has potential for targeting tumor cells or for protease inhibition therapy. TADG's ligand-binding domains may be valuable in the uptake of specific molecules into tumor cells.
